Failure to successfully meet targets set up in Gola 7 will worsen:
According to a 2020 UN report, approximately 789 million people in the world still have no access to electricity, which represents approximately 10% of world's population.
According to the Global Renewable Energy Council (GWEC), in 2019 18% of the world's electricity came from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind or hydropower, i.e. 82% are still harmful, traditional and outdated infrastructure.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that despite progress in energy efficiency, there is still significant potential for improvement. It is estimated that energy efficiency can be improved by an additional 40% by 2040.
The energy sector is responsible for approximately 73% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The increase in emissions is related to excessive dependency on fossil fuels.
