NO LIFE ON LANDS
100 milion
hectares of healthy and productive land are degraded every year (2015-2019). IT'S THE SIZE OF TWO GREENLAND.
The world is facing the worst species extinction since the dinosaur era.
Failure to implement Gola 15 will result in:
- further destruction of forests;
- loss of biodiversity on land;
- progressive desertification and environmental degradation.
Currently:
- According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), only 15% of land area is protected, and achieving Goal 15 would require increasing this percentage.
- According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the world has lost approximately 178 million hectares of forests since 1990.
- According to the UN's annual reports on desertification, we are loosing approximately 12 million hectares of fertile land annually due to desertification processes.
- According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), over 27,000 species are currently at risk of extinction.
