Goal 6

Ensure access to water and sanitation for all people through sustainable management of water resources

Implementation of Goal 6 will allow to:

ensure universal and equitable access to safe drinking water, wherever possible free or at an affordable cost;
ensure access to adequate and decent sanitation and hygiene for all;
improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating landfills, and limiting the use of harmful chemicals and other harmful materials;
increase efficiency of water use in all sectors and ensure sustainable water generation and drinking water supplies;
implement integrated management of water resources at all levels, including through cross-border cooperations;
protect and restore water-dependent ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, lakes, and groundwater;
expand international cooperation and support to build the capacity of developing countries to take action and develop programs related to water and sanitation, in areas such as water collection, desalination, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling, and water reuse technologies.
